About Herat Market
Located at 5694 Thornton Ave, Newark, CA 94560, Herat Market operates as an asian grocery store serving Newark in California. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.
Store size varies enormously, from a small corner grocery with a few aisles to a full supermarket chain location in Newark with a bakery, seafood counter and food court under one roof. Sales and promotions are often posted in-store or in a weekly flyer rather than online, so prices listed on a website may be out of date. Seafood markets sell live and on-ice product and can usually clean or prepare fish on request for a small fee. Specialty food stores in California may focus narrowly on one category, like a butcher, a rice and dry goods shop, or an import store, so calling ahead to confirm stock for a specific item saves a wasted trip.
Hours are published for 7 days a week. Typical hours are 8 am–7 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (510) 713-1834. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. More information is available on its website, facebook.com.
On Google it holds a rating of 4.6 out of 5 from 144 reviews, which is a strong result for an asian grocery store in Newark and suggests consistent service.
Newark is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around Newark is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

I had such a fantastic experience here that I had to leave a review. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm smiles and genuine friendliness. The customer service was absolutely top-notch—everyone I interacted with was helpful, polite, and really seemed to care about making sure I had a good experience. The staff at the cashier were especially kind and welcoming. They were patient, cheerful, and made the checkout process quick and pleasant. It’s not every day you come across such kind-hearted and professional people at the front desk. What really surprised me, though, was how affordable everything was. The prices are incredibly reasonable for the quality of service you get. It’s rare to find a place where you get both great value and excellent customer care, but this place nails it. Overall, I left feeling really impressed and appreciated. I’ll definitely be coming back, and I’ll be recommending this place to friends and family too. If you’re looking for great service, fair prices, and genuinely nice people—this is the place to go!

i would have given 0 star if i could. I called this store to ask about the prices of just three meat items before making a purchase. Instead of a simple answer, I was met with rude and unprofessional behavior. The person on the phone dismissively asked if I wanted meat or just the price, as if I was wasting their time. How does a business expect customers to buy something without knowing the price first? This kind of attitude is completely unacceptable. Customer service matters, and based on my experience, I won’t be shopping here again.

Unique shop selling freshly made authentic baklava as well as a great selection of meat, food & drinks from the Middle East. Very lovely family who work there and happy to help. I’m so glad I found this place and will definitely be my local!

I thoroughly enjoy shopping here for authentic Afghan and middle eastern ingredients. The butcher shop has excellent Halal meat. Their breads are made fresh. I have always been treated with respect. Hands-down they have the best salt to dried lamb meat also known as “Londi!” However it is only available in the winter months.

I personally enjoyed this grocery store. It was a little difficult to find what I needed and I ended up not purchasing anything but the variety was there, between the meats and frozen, to packaged and sweets. Choices were endless. I gave 4 stars for the beautiful collection of Canary's they had in store. I didn't want to leave.
